26 years of short hair. I'm finally growing it out. Here's the routine that made me cancel my haircut.

Style Freely, Protect Deeply. Our hair MD's silky hair routine, now up to 60% off on StyleKorean.

I have never had long hair. Not once in 26 years.

It wasn't a choice, exactly. It was the consequence of every decision I made in my twenties: bleaching, perming, flat-ironing on high heat with no heat protectant because I genuinely did not know better. My hair paid for all of it. Split ends that started halfway up the shaft. Frizz that no amount of product could tame. Strands that snapped when I brushed them. Every time I tried to grow it out, I'd get six months in, look at the state of it, and just cut it all off again.

I made peace with short hair. Or I told myself I did.

Then, in a routine meeting with our hair MD, I mentioned it offhandedly. That I'd always wanted long hair. That I'd given up on the idea. That my hair was simply too damaged to get there. She didn't say much in response. She just pulled up a product list and said: try this order, exactly like this, for four weeks.I had a haircut booked for the following Saturday. I cancelled it. I'm growing my hair to my waist. This is the routine she built me.

[GROWUS] Damage Therapy Repair Clinic Hair Pack 230g

MD pulled up first when she saw the state of my hair. Growus has built its reputation on marine-derived ingredients, and this treatment is where that philosophy lands most directly. Himalayan pink salt, pearl extract, and sea-based actives work to repair the hair shaft from within, rather than just coating the surface.

The texture is thick in a way that feels intentional. It clings to the hair and stays there while it works, and the rinse-out leaves strands noticeably softer and less prone to tangling. The scent is a rose and forest signature that carries through to dry hair in a way that made me check what perfume I was wearing.

What I noticed after consistent use was that my ends stopped looking like the enemy. The split, frayed texture that used to signal "cut it" started smoothing out. In Korea, hair that moves like seaweed in water — glossy, weightless, perfectly fluid — is the ultimate compliment for someone's hair. For the first time, I understood what that meant.

Tip: the MD's sandwich method changed how I use this routine. Before shampooing, apply this treatment to the ends first and leave it there. Then shampoo focusing on the scalp, while the treatment works on the ends at the same time. The HeadSpa7 hair pack follows after shampooing as the second layer.

[HEADSPA7] Treatment Parannun Black Hair Pack 200ml

The second layer of the sandwich. After shampooing, apply this to wet hair, then wash your body while it works, and rinse everything out together at the end. Two treatment steps inside one shower. The MD's sequencing turns what sounds like extra effort into something that actually takes no extra time.

The Black Hair Pack has clocked 7 million units sold through home shopping alone, and the reason people keep coming back is that it works differently from other treatments. The formula starts transparent. When it contacts wet hair, it transforms into a dense cream, creating a moisture-sealing layer in what the brand calls a 7-second absorption. The result is volume that holds for up to 100 hours, improved cuticle condition, and a formula gentle enough to apply directly to the scalp.

After the first use, my hair combed through without snagging. That alone was enough to convince me to keep going.

Tip: apply generously to towel-dried hair from mid-lengths to ends, leave on while you wash your body, then rinse thoroughly at the end.

[COSRX] PEPTIDE-132 Ultra Perfect Hair Bonding Oil Serum 28ml

COSRX's logic here is straightforward: if peptides repair damaged skin bonds, they should repair damaged hair bonds too. The patented PEPTIDE-132 targets keratin bonding at the strand level, filling in weakened areas and locking in the nutrients that damaged hair loses. Seven botanical oils including argan, camellia, jojoba, and macadamia form the base, creating a protective layer that adds shine without weight.

In my routine, this goes on right after towel-drying, before the dryer. A few drops through mid-lengths and ends while the hair is still damp, then I blow-dry as usual. The heat helps the oils absorb more effectively, and what I'm left with is the kind of shine that looks intentional rather than applied.

A small amount goes further than expected. The frizz, flyaways, and rough texture that make long hair look unfinished start to disappear. The finish is glossy without being greasy, which is the distinction that separates a hair oil worth using from one that sits on the shelf.

The MD's tip, passed on directly: this goes on last in the post-shower routine, always. It seals everything in while the dryer does its job.

Tip: start with two to three drops and add from there. Fine hair types should use sparingly at the ends only.

[TOCOBO] Heat Proof Hair Mist 01 Lowkey Famous

Here's the honest reason most hair care routines fail: the damage keeps coming back because the heat never stops. Growing your hair out while still using a flat iron is entirely possible, but only if you're protecting the hair before every single use. This mist is that step.

In my routine, this comes after the oil serum and the blow-dry, right before the flat iron. Finishing the drying first is the key. Using a flat iron over hair that still has significant moisture in it is how hair burns. The oil serum takes care of the drying stage, and this mist adds the final protective layer before the iron touches it. Two steps, one at each end of the heat process.

The ultra-fine formula distributes evenly without clumping, protects up to 230 degrees Celsius, and covers heat from irons, UV exposure, and environmental sources. Peptides, ceramides, coconut milk, and pomegranate extract do the conditioning work underneath. The black sugar and pomegranate fragrance lingers past the styling session and covers the burnt smell of heat styling. A small detail, but a genuinely appreciated one.

Tip: spray onto dry or nearly dry hair from 15 to 20 centimetres away before flat-ironing. Focus on mid-lengths and ends. Can be reapplied lightly throughout the day to refresh.

The haircut I cancelled is still on my phone as a reminder. I moved it to December. By then, I'm hoping there's actually something worth trimming.
