The Moisturizer No No Nos!

By now we all think we know how to use moisturizers. But do you? Do you really? Test yourself against our list to find out if you’re making these major mistakes.

1. Skipping the patch test:

Just because it worked for a friend, doesn’t mean it will work for you. We all have different skin types so it’s important that you do a patch test to make sure the moisturizer won’t cause an allergic reaction or break you out – especially if it contains irritating ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, artificial fragrances and parabens.

2. Thinking you don’t need a moisturizer:

Do you have oily and / or acne prone skin? Then moisturizers are a must! Our skin compensates for a lack of hydration by over-producing sebum and that’s what makes us our skin look so oily. What’s more, acne targeting creams often contain ingredients such as salicylic acid which further dries out our skin. So to maintain our oil-moisture balance, a moisturizer is a must! Just make sure to tailor it to your skin. That is, opt for oil-free creams if you're afraid of break outs and turn to moisturizers with hyaluronic acid if you have dry skin.

3. Applying too much:

Less is more when it comes to skincare. Too much will block you pores resulting in trouble. Plus, the extra patting and rubbing will break down your skin’s barrier leading to the loss of moisture and... you got it… dreaded wrinkles!

4. Using your moisturizer on dry skin.

The entire point of moisturizing is to lock in all the hydration. So it’s best to do this while your skin is still damp. That is, straight after cleansing.

5. Not differentiating between night and day.

Go for a light-weight moisturizer during the day to avoid looking greasy. But at night, don’t be afraid to reach for a rich, nourishing cream. After all, your skin will be busy at work repairing and rebuilding while you sleep. So make sure to give it the building blocks it needs to revive itself.

6. Prolonged use.

Our skin changes as we age. Heck, it changes every season! So make sure to alter your skincare to cater to these changes.

On that note, today I’m going to talk about my latest go-to moisturizer – Olivarrier’s pH 5.5 Dual Moist Comfort Cream.

Olivarrier is a brand that’s designed to offer your skin the ultimate comfort by providing natural products that are free from chemical preservatives, raw animal materials, mineral oils and other harmful substances.

So it should come as no surprise that the Dual Moist Comfort Cream is:

★ Dermatest guaranteed

★ Mildly acidic to mimic the skin’s pH

★ Free of synthetic preservatives, fragrances and colorants

★ Cruelty free and vegan

★ Contains micro-hyaluronic acid to restore the skin’s elasticity by providing hydration

It’s always difficult to find a summer moisturizer. Why? Cos I have incredibly dry skin so it has to be both light weight and intensely hydrating – a combination that’s quite difficult to find!

One of the main issues I’ve experienced with moisturizers is that though it might feel hydrating at first, slowly but surely my skin begins to feel tight and cracks start to show up (especially when worn under makeup)!

But I was pleasantly surprised at how well this cream works. It feels lightweight but wears incredibly well throughout the day. In fact, a little goes a long way with this product; there’s no need to pack on the moisturizer. As Olivarrier says “less but better”.

The cream is fast absorbing with a light finish that not only feels refreshing but actually lets your skin breath! There’s no stickiness either so it’s perfect to wear on a day to day basis.
