Out of the box this sponge has a strong rubbery/plasticy scent, and feels very firm and hard. After you wet it, the sponge basically stays the same size and still feels very hard. I tried putting it under water a couple of times to see if it just needed more time to expand, but it doesn't like any of my other makeup sponges. Also when you wet it, it still looks and feels very wet, and it's impossible to wring all of the water out. Really don't recommend buying this, I bought it on sale and I feel like I wasted $2...
